DESCRIPTION
A comprehensive campaign created to raise awareness of Women's History Month among University of Maryland students and community members. The campaign included print and web images, and social media messaging, as well as t-shirts, stickers, and enamel pins that were distributed throughout the month of March 2019.
The theme of 2019’s Women’s History Month was “Visionary Women.” When thinking about this theme and the topic of peace-as-protest, I was struck by the connection between the "protest fist" image and that of the peace sign. Specifically, how the two images fit together and speak to each other. With this in mind, I wanted to focus on the peace symbol when creating designs and promotional items.
Happily, the peace sign not only stands for peace, but is also "V" in American sign language, meaning that it could stand in as the first letter of the "Visionary Women" tagline. It also commonly means "victory—" in this case, victory over violence, oppression, and injustice. This proved to be a powerful image, and very useful in helping us direct our audience to seek our more information regarding the University of Maryland’s Women’s History Month programming.
